Elizabeth Farm Site Study Welcome. This teaching site discusses one of the most historical sites in Australia, which is found in Parramatta, New South Wales. Constructed in 1793 by John and Elizabeth Macarthur, pioneers of wool production, Elizabeth Farm offers much useful information about the life of the early colonists and the history of the Australian agricultural sector.

Being one of the oldest surviving houses in Europe in Australia, the farm provides students with the possibility to learn how people lived, worked, and adapted to their environment in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. By studying its preserved architecture, gardens, and artefacts, learners can gain an insight into such important historical concepts as continuity and change, cause and effect, and perspectives.

The site study is closely related to the NSW History K-6 syllabus, as students are encouraged to critically think about the past and explore evidence of the past and consider the ways in which the colonial history of Australia has influenced the modern society. Through realistic primary sources and real life settings, students can come up with meaningful linking of history, culture, and identity.

This project is aimed to create curiosity, empathy, and awareness of people, places, and events that have shaped the Australian narrative. Elizabeth Farm can be seen as a gateway to learning about how the Aboriginal people as well as the European settlers reacted and reacted to the initial colonisation.
